Feature Bios:

Comedian Jonesy lives in NYC and has been on the Late Show with David Letterman, Law & Order SVU and Nurse Jackie. His standup comedy style is a high energy hybrid of big ideas and immature thoughts. For more info, check out http://Jonesy.com/.

Ashlee Voorsanger is a comedian who combines her Texas roots, with a few years in Los Angeles, adding just a dash of her New York neuroses. Winning her first stage role in Dallas after showing up to an audition to “see what it was like,” she went on to perform in theatre, film, commercials, voice overs, and print before venturing into stand up comedy. Finally able to combine her love of writing, characters, stories, and embarrassing tales – stand up is where she found her home. Finding inspiration in legendary performers like Johnny Carson, Lily Tomlin, and Jonathan Winters (she was caught a number of times sneaking out of her room as a child to watch them on the lone family TV), Ashlee made her stand up debut on the nationally televised “The Greg Behrendt Show”, and performed around LA at venues including The Improv and Room 5. She has continued studying, writing, and performing after moving to New York and has been seen at Comix, Village Lantern, and The Grisly Pear among others. Singer Lacresha Berry hails from Lexington, KY and resides in Queens, NY. She graduated from the University of Kentucky in '03 where she honed her mix of soulful acapella and r&b doing one-woman shows and open mics. Trained in gospel, Lacresha grew up singing and performing. She began to realize her gift in junior high school and from there she has been crooning every since. In 2003, she moved to New York City to pursue costume design at NYU but felt a sense of loss not being able to perfect her craft while in graduate school. Since then, she has been teaching, writing, and performing all over the city in places such as the Nuyorican Poets, Cafe,Nubian Heritage, Afrikan Poetry Theatre, and Urban Juke Joint. She is an 8th grade teacher in Harlem and currently finishing her debut album, Me. Music. She has always been known for her huge voice - belting and convulsing through each note. She is a force of nature who reaches inside your soul and tugs on your heart strings.

Hip-Hop Artist/Poet Charlie Scott, 22, born and raised in Queens, is a recovering addict and the child of two hearing impaired parents who recently released his first mixtape called Lyrical Therapy. Writing poetry since he was 12, Charlie combined his passion for words with rhythmic beats and discovered hip-hop as an outlet to communicate and encourage during his recovery process at a rehabilitation center. Delivering inspiring messages through his outstanding lyrical capability, he offers a refreshing new genre of positive hip-hop, philosophical words, and raw talent, leading various listeners to say, "I don't particularly like rap, but I listen to Charlie Scott.” He tours rehabilitation facilities to carry his message of strength and hope, incorporated with music, without asking for payment because "addicts are my people...it's our job to help each other." Danny Matos, born and raised in New York City, is the winner of the recent 2013 Poetry Idol Competition. He has been interested in poetry since grade school, but he battled many years of self-image issues which prolonged his ability to gain enough confidence to write and perform. He began performing at The Inspired Word in the fall of 2012 and has performed at various venues including The Nuyorican Poets Cafe, Bar 13, and the Poet's Den Theatre. He draws inspiration from anyone and everywhere, and feels that a genuine connection is one of humanity's greatest needs. “Words give us a purpose bigger than ourselves,” he says, “and they can connect people faster than modern transportation. He is also a personal trainer and writer/contributor for 'The Weekly Mindshift,” an extension of FreeThinkingRenegades.com.

Host Bio:

Nathan P., host of The Inspired Word’s Open Mic Joint and a legendary figure on the New York City spoken word poetry scene, is a picture of style, grace and cool. He is known for his eye-catching suits, cufflinks, pocket-squares and fedoras. With a voice that resonates a luscious bass, the sound of his words are as captivating as the words themselves. His engaging talent and stage presence enabled him to become a Nuyorican Grand Slam Finalist in his very first year on the circuit in 2000 and he ultimately became a host at the Nuyorican Poets Café for seven years. He has also been in two off-Broadway productions (“Be Beautiful” and “An Evolution in Reinvention”), produced two books of poetry (“Madness” and “The Colors of My Mind”), and appeared on numerous CD’s (most notably his solo project “Chalklines on Black Asphalt”).
